Extra price

Extra price is an add-on. It adds a cost to individual choices, on top of the WooCommerce product price. The customer sees a running total as they configure; the cart and the order use that same total.

Activate it like any other add-on. See How to install the add-ons you purchased.

Adding a price to a choice

Open the product's configurator, go to Content, and select the choice. Choice extra Price and Extra Price type are in the extra-price settings for that choice.

Leave the price empty, or 0, for a choice that does not change the total.

Two types are available:

  • Fixed amount — the usual case. The number is added as-is (in the shop currency). A negative value subtracts, so a choice can be a discount.
  • Percentage of the product's price — the number is a percentage of the WooCommerce product price. On a variable product that is the selected variation's price. Enter 10 for 10%, not 0.10.

The extra is only charged when the choice is selected. Hidden or inactive choices do not contribute.

How the customer sees it

Three places show a price, and they can be turned off independently:

  • On the choice — a + (or −) next to the name in the configurator.
  • Configuration costs — a running total of the extras, in the configurator footer, labelled Configuration costs: by default. The product's own price is shown separately when Show the product's price in the configurator is enabled in Product Configurator > Settings.
  • On the product page — the same configuration-costs line under the product price, unless the configurator is embedded with a shortcode.

In the cart, checkout and order, each priced choice can show its extra next to the choice name. The line-item total is the product price plus every extra.

Taxes follow WooCommerce: extras are taxed like the product, and the amounts shown match Display prices including/excluding tax.

Relative prices

Display a relative price, in the Extra price settings, changes what appears on the choices in a simple layer.

Instead of each choice showing its own extra, the labels show the difference from the currently selected choice. If a layer has three choices at $10, $20 and $30, and the second is selected, the labels read −$10, 0 and +$10.

The cart still charges the real extra. Relative prices are a display aid only, and they apply to simple layers.

Price bulk edit

Editing one choice at a time is slow on a large configurator. Price bulk edit, in the configurator sidebar, shows every layer and choice in one table: the price and type, and with Form fields the price per unit, the calculation value, and each select or radio option.

From there you can search and filter the choices, change many prices at once (set, add, increase by a percentage, round…), and export the prices to a spreadsheet and import them back.

See Price bulk edit.

Extra price options

Site-wide settings live in Product Configurator > Settings > Extra price options:

  • Hide the total configuration costs in the configurator — the footer line.
  • Hide the individual choice's configuration costs in the configurator — the + next to each choice.
  • Hide the individual choice's configuration costs in the cart, checkout and order.
  • Hide the configuration costs in the product summary — the line under the product price. Has no effect when the configurator is added with a shortcode.
  • Display a relative price — described above.
  • "Configuration costs:" label — replace the default wording.

With other add-ons

Extra price is the pricing layer other add-ons plug into.

Form fields

Form fields can drive a price from what the customer types or selects:

  • A number or quantity field can have a Price per unit. The extra is the entered value times that rate — length × price per centimetre, for example.
  • Select and radio options can each have their own extra.
  • A Price calculation field runs a formula over other fields (dimensions, counts, selected options).

See Using the Price calculation field.

Linked products

With Linked product / stock management, a choice can take its price from a real product in the shop instead of a typed extra. That price can still be overridden, multiplied by a factor, or multiplied by the linked quantity.

See Linked product.

Customising prices with code

The extras that go into the cart, and the amounts shown in the configurator, can be filtered. See the Extra Price hooks.
