The 3D Premium add-on adds features to the 3D configurator: clickable points on the model, animations, augmented reality, photographic effects, and parts that move into place when a choice changes.
The 3D viewer works without it. 3D Premium adds to it and doesn't replace anything.
What it adds
| Feature | What it does | Where you set it up |
|---|---|---|
| Hotspots | Clickable points on the model that open a layer, select a choice, show a description, play an animation or move the camera. | 3D Objects > Add 3D item > Hotspot |
| Animations | Play the animations stored in your model file when the customer switches view or clicks a hotspot. | 3D Objects > Add 3D item > Animation controller |
| Positions, anchors and layouts | Mount a part on an anchor in another model, move it when a choice changes, and repeat copies with layouts. | A model's Position, Add 3D item > Layout, and the Move to anchor and Switch layout variant choice actions |
| Augmented reality | A View in your space button that opens the configured product in AR on phones and tablets. | 3D settings > AR / Quick Look |
| Postprocessing | Contact shadows, reflections, glow and photo-style finishing, picked from a list of looks. | 3D settings > Postprocessing |
| Background image and colour changes | An image behind the model, and choices that change the background colour. | 3D settings > Background, and a choice action |
Requirements
- Product Configurator for WooCommerce v2 with a product set to Configurator type: 3D configurator. On a 2D configurator the add-on adds nothing.
- For AR, the site must be served over HTTPS. Android devices won't offer AR without it.
To install the add-on, see how to install the add-ons you purchased. Each feature is set up per product in the configurator editor. The only site-wide option is the label of the AR button.
How to tell it is active
With the add-on active, a 3D configurator shows:
- Animation controller and Hotspot in the Add 3D item menu of 3D Objects,
- Layout in the same menu, and a Position setting on each model,
- AR / Quick Look and Postprocessing sections in 3D settings,
- an Image option under Background mode,
- a Change background color action in each choice's 3D actions.
Without the add-on, the AR / Quick Look and Postprocessing sections are still listed in 3D settings, with a short description of what they do instead of their settings.
It only loads what a product uses
Each feature's script is loaded only on products that use it. A product with no hotspots doesn't download the hotspot code, and AR code loads only when AR is enabled on that product. The heavier postprocessing effects download only when the chosen look needs them.
Having the add-on active doesn't make your other 3D products slower.
If you deactivate it
Your settings are kept. Hotspots, animation controllers, layouts and all the other settings stay stored with the product, and they apply again as soon as the add-on is reactivated.
While it is inactive:
- hotspots, animations, AR and postprocessing don't appear on the front end,
- Change background color choice actions do nothing,
- every model is shown where it was modelled, ignoring anchors and layouts.
For developers
Hotspot, AR and postprocessing hooks are listed in 3D Premium hooks. The Three.js scene itself, including custom passes that work with or without this add-on, is covered by the 3D runtime API.
